
Removal
1. Remove the starter.
2. Unscrew the nut and remove the short wire from terminal 1 of the starter (see illustration).

3. Unscrew the two bolts and remove the traction relay (see illustration).

Examination
The main condition for checking is a full charge of the battery.
4. Connect the auxiliary wire to the starter housing, and connect the other end to the negative terminal of the battery.
5. Connect the second auxiliary wire to the positive terminal of the battery.
6. Connect the other end of this wire briefly to terminal 50 on the traction relay.
The starter pinion should move forward and the starter itself should start. If this does not happen, remove the starter and replace it with a new one.
Installation
7. Seal the joint between the starter and the traction relay with a suitable sealant.
8. Install the traction relay into the starter and screw in the mounting bolts.
9. Secure the short wire to the traction relay connecting terminal.
10. Check the starter for proper operation before installing it on the vehicle.
11. Reinstall the starter.
