Sequence of work
1. Check all rubber suspension parts for tears, cuts and other damage, replace if necessary. To check the muffler on the hangers, pull down a little.
2. Check the strength of the bolted connection on the muffler flanges.
3. Plug the end of the exhaust pipe with a rag, and the engine should soon stop. If you hear a rustling sound and the engine continues to run, then the exhaust system is faulty. A loud noise and rumble when starting off indicate a rusted muffler.
4. Carefully tap the entire exhaust system from the exhaust manifold with a hammer. If the sound is sonorous when struck with a hammer, then the metal is in order; places where the sound is muffled are prone to corrosion and may soon rust.
