Sequence of works
1. Securely support the vehicle on a jack.

2. Remove the engine and gearbox casing from below (fig. 4.102).
3. Disconnect the front section from the flange.
4. Remove the front section fasteners (two nuts).
5. Remove the system from the suspension. You will need an assistant to support it here.
6. Carefully remove the muffler so as not to damage the catalytic converter.
7. Before installation, clean the muffler connections from deposits and soot.
8. Clean the threaded connections with a wire bristle brush and lubricate with special oil.
9. If the system has been completely dismantled, first connect all its parts without tightening the connections too tightly.
10. Secure the system to the hangers before tightening all fasteners. Check that the distance from the exhaust system to other parts of the car is at least 25 mm.
11. Tighten all bolts to 20 Nm.
12. Take a test drive. The exhaust system should not hit when the car is moving. Rumbling and rattling indicate that the connections are too tight.

13. After hanging the system under the bottom of the car, tighten the clamp between the front and rear parts of the muffler (fig. 4.103).

14. The front muffler mount on the gearbox can be used after removing the cover to orient the exhaust system (fig. 4.104)To do this, unscrew both bolts (big arrows) and move the mount accordingly. Muffler bolts (small arrows) tighten after alignment.

15. After the entire system is aligned, you can tighten the bolts (fig. 4.105) flanges (arrows, only two are visible) on the exhaust manifold.
16. Then loosen the clamps again (be careful on hot pipes) and align the system again.
Attention! Disposal of the catalyst
Attention! Used catalytic converters contain precious metals that can be recovered. Mercedes-Benz service centers accept used catalytic converters in exchange for new ones with an additional payment. Do not open the catalytic converter housing - it contains highly toxic substances.
