The exhaust system (Fig. 4.97) has the task of reducing the content of harmful substances in the exhaust gases as much as possible (catalyst operation). In addition, combustion noise is reduced to a minimum here. The exhaust system of the Mercedes E-Class consists of a front pipe with a catalytic converter and a rear pipe with a resonator and muffler. When repairing, the system parts can be replaced individually.
