Pic. 4.100. Silencer rubber suspension
1. Check all rubber parts of the muffler suspension (pic. 4.100) for tears, cuts or other damage, replace if necessary. To check the muffler on the hangers, pull down slightly.
2. Check the strength of the bolted connection on the muffler flanges.
3. Plug the exhaust end of the muffler with a rag. The engine should shut down soon. If you hear a rustling sound and the engine continues to run, then the exhaust system is not in order.
4. A very loud sound and rumble when starting off indicates a rusted muffler.
Pic. 4.101. Elastic connection in front of the muffler
5. Check the flexible connection in front of the muffler for wear (pic. 4.101).
6. Carefully tap the entire exhaust system from the manifold with a hammer. If the sound is sonorous when struck with a hammer, then the metal is in order. If in some places the sound is muffled, these places are subject to corrosion and may soon rust.
