Lower chain guide for double-row chain models (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W124)

1. Remove the intermediate shaft.

2. Remove the drive chain from the crankshaft sprocket.

3. Using a puller, remove the sprocket from the crankshaft to make room for removing the chain guide.

4. Remove the lower chain guide from the clamps.

5. Check the condition of the lower chain guide and replace it if necessary.

6. Install the lower chain retainer into the retainers.

7. Align the slot in the crankshaft sprocket with the woodruff key and, using a metal tubular drift and hammer, install the sprocket onto the front end of the crankshaft.

8. Install the oil pump drive coupling.

9. Place the drive chain on the crankshaft sprocket, aligning the marks made when removing the sprocket.

10. Install the intermediate shaft.
