- prolonged body vibrations caused by road irregularities;
- body buildup on two consecutive hillocks of the road;
- bouncing wheels on a normal road;
- car jerk when braking (may be due to other reasons);
- incontinence of the road when cornering, skidding;
- strong knocks;
- increased wear of tires with bald spots on the tread.
The shock absorber can be checked by hand. The exact determination of the degree of wear is possible only with the help of devices: a rod tester (damper not removable) or shock absorber testing machine.
Checking the shock absorber by hand
1. Remove shock absorber.
2. When assembled, stretch and compress the shock absorber 3 times. During the entire stroke, the shock absorber should move evenly heavily, without jerking, moreover, without unwanted noise.
3. Fully push the shock absorber rod in, then release it. The stem should extend outward at a uniform rate.
4. With perfect operation, slight traces of oil are not grounds for replacing the shock absorber.
5. Replace the shock absorber if there is a large loss of oil.
6. Install shock absorber.
Disposal of shock absorbers
Attention! The shock absorber contains mineral oil and, for example, in Germany, according to the waste law, its contents must be handed over with the engine oil.
1. To drain the oil from the shock absorber, you must first release a non-toxic, colorless and odorless gas from it by drilling a hole with a diameter of 3 mm at a distance of 20 mm from the base.
2. To drain the oil, drill a hole with a diameter of 5 mm at a distance of 60 mm from the base.
