Removal and installation the propeller shaft (Mercedes-Benz Vito W639)

1. Remove the propeller shaft by following these steps.

2. Disconnect the front section of the propeller shaft (1) from the gearbox (only for vehicles without all-wheel drive) (drawing VN 4.039).

3. Disconnect the rear section of the propeller shaft (1) from the flange (3) of the rear axle final drive tailpiece.

4. Remove the front section propeller shaft hanger bearing (4).

5. Remove the hanger bearing (5) of the rear section of the propeller shaft.

6. Remove the propeller shaft (T). To do this, remove the safety bracket (6).

7. Check the cardan joints for wear.

8. Apply extended life grease during assembly (MV long-term grease) on the splined surfaces of the cardan shafts.

9. Connect the front and rear sections of the driveshaft.

Note: The marks on the drive shaft sections to be connected must be positioned as shown in the figure VN 4.040.
