Turbocharged diesel engines
1. Unscrew and remove the air filter cover fastener.
2. Lift the air cleaner cover with the gasket. Cover the hole in the center of the air cleaner housing base to prevent dirt from entering the air flow meter or turbocharger.
3. Remove the air filter element.
4. Clean the inside of the air filter housing.
5. Install a new filter element.
6. Install the gasket and cover and secure it with nuts.
Diesel engine without turbocharging
1. Loosen the clamp and remove the air intake pipe from the front of the air cleaner.
2. Disconnect the spring clips and remove the air cleaner housing cover.
3. Remove the filter element from the air filter housing.
4. Clean the inside of the air filter housing.
5. Install a new filter element into the air cleaner housing.
6. Install the air cleaner cover and secure it with the spring clips.
7. Connect the air intake pipe to the front of the air cleaner housing and secure it with a clamp.
Replacing the fuel filter
Fuel filter
A – fuel filter;
B – filter holder;
C – sealing gaskets;
D – bolt
1. Remove the ground cable from the battery.
2. Supporting the fuel filter with your hand, unscrew the bolt securing the fuel filter to the filter holder (see picture).
3. Remove the filter from the engine compartment, keeping it upright to prevent fuel from leaking out.
4. Lubricate the new fuel filter O-ring with a thin layer of fuel.
5. Install the fuel filter onto the filter holder and secure with the bolt using new O-rings.
Automatic transmission oil and filter change

Removal the mesh filter

After unscrewing the clamp bolts (1), remove the mesh filter (2).
1. Raise the car on a lift.
2. To access the gearbox, remove the lower mudguard.
Original can be found on the website [MERCEDESMAN.ru]
3. Set the selector lever to position P.
4. Wipe the automatic transmission pan thoroughly.
5. Place a suitable container under the transmission drain plug, then unscrew the drain plug and after the oil has drained, screw the drain plug back into place (see Fig. Unscrewing the oil drain plug from the automatic transmission).
6. Using the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt, rotate the engine crankshaft to a position until the torque converter drain plug is visible through the hole in the gearbox housing (see Fig. Location of the oil drain plug from the torque converter).
7. Place a suitable container under the torque converter drain plug and unscrew the drain plug. Once the fluid has completely drained from the torque converter, reinstall the drain plug.
8. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts, then remove the clamping strips and lower the oil pan away from the transmission (see Fig. Location of automatic transmission pan mounting bolts). Remove the rubber gasket.
9. Unscrew the screws and remove the mesh filter (see fig. Removing the mesh filter).
10. Clean the inside of the automatic transmission oil pan.
11. Install the new mesh filter and secure with screws.
12. Install the tray and clamping strips and secure the tray with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.
13. If available, install a mudguard.
14. Lower the vehicle to the ground, then release the locking lever and remove the automatic transmission fluid dipstick.
15. Pour 4 liters of the required fluid into the gearbox through the dipstick tube. Start the engine in idle mode with the selector lever in position P.
16. Continue adding fluid gradually until the level is 12 mm below the min mark on the dipstick.
17. Move the selector lever through all positions, holding it in each position for a few seconds, then return the selector lever to position P.
18. Recheck the automatic transmission fluid level.
19. Refill the fluid to a level of 12 mm below the min mark and move the selector lever to all positions, then set it to position P. Repeat this operation until the fluid level in the gearbox remains constant.
20. Take a short drive and recheck the automatic transmission fluid level.
Checking the wear of the clutch disc linings
Clutch Disc Lining Wear Check Template
A = 55 mm;
B = 26 mm;
C = 7 mm;
D = 14 mm;
E = 12 mm
Clutch disc lining satisfactory condition template
In this position of the template, the clutch disc linings are in satisfactory condition.
1 – clutch slave cylinder; 2 – gasket; 3 – pusher; 4 – template
The arrows indicate two marks on the template.
Clutch Disc Lining Wear Limit Template

This position of the template indicates that the clutch disc linings have reached their wear limit.
Light arrow – the plunger moves due to wear.
The dark arrow is a mark on the template.
1. Checking the wear of the clutch disc linings is performed without removing the clutch disc from the vehicle.
2. The check can be performed from the underside of the clutch slave cylinder and requires a special template, which can be made from a strip of metal (see Fig. Clutch Disc Lining Wear Check Template).
3. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands.
4. Insert the template into the groove between the clutch slave cylinder protrusion and the housing.
5. Move the template all the way until the end of the template contacts the clutch slave cylinder push rod.
6. If the two marks on the template are not visible, the clutch disc linings are in satisfactory condition. If the two marks on the template are visible, the clutch disc linings have reached their wear limit and the clutch disc must be replaced (see fig. Template of satisfactory condition of clutch disc linings, Template of maximum wear of clutch disc linings).
7. Remove the template and lower the vehicle.
