The car uses a working brake system with hydraulic drive and diagonal separation of circuits, which significantly increases the safety of driving a car. The braking system consists of a master cylinder, a vacuum brake booster and disc brakes on the front and rear wheels.
All later models are equipped with an anti-lock brake system consisting of a hydraulic modulator, an electronic control unit, relays and wheel speed sensors. The system prevents the wheels from locking during heavy braking. On vehicles with diesel engines, a separate pump is used to create a vacuum that ensures the operation of the vacuum brake booster, which is installed on the cylinder head. On models also equipped with Vehicle Speed Control (ASR), the anti-lock braking system also functions as a vehicle speed control system.
Most models are equipped with front disc brakes with floating caliper type with one working brake cylinder. On models with more powerful engines, a fixed caliper with two working brake cylinders is installed.
The rear disc brakes are equipped with fixed calipers with two working brake cylinders.
A cable-operated, independent parking brake applies a drum-type brake to the rear wheels.
