Rear axle and shaft design (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W123)

Rear axle maintenance consists of checking the oil level in the crankcase every 16,000 km, which should be at the level of the lower edge of the filler hole. Significant oil loss indicates a leak in the rear axle seals, which in this case must be replaced.
