An endless chain with 186 links for 116 engines and 198 links for 117 engines transmits rotation from the sprocket on the crankshaft to the two camshaft sprockets and the ignition distributor drive sprocket.
The drive chain is supported by two dampers in the cylinder heads and one damper in the cylinder block. The chain tension is carried out by a hydraulic tensioner located in the cylinder block, the force of the tensioner pusher is transmitted to a metal shoe with guides. Shoes for series 116 and 117 are not interchangeable.
The crankshaft sprocket is fastened with a central bolt and is fixed on the shaft with a key.
When performing the following work, it is assumed that the camshaft drive cover has already been removed (section 2.4).
Removal and installation of the chain tensioner
Loosen the tensioner mounting bolts and remove the tensioner.
When replacing the tensioner, it must be assembled with the pusher. Install a new gasket on the new tensioner and evenly tighten the mounting bolts. The pusher should fit into the stop of the chain tensioner shoe. Perform all other work in reverse order.
