Front oil seal (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W116)

0
The front crankshaft oil seal is installed in the camshaft cover and can be replaced on the engine installed in the vehicle. First of all, you need to check whether the oil leak is caused by a leak in the camshaft cover surface joint and fix it. The size of the oil seal depends on the year of engine production, which is what you need to pay attention to when buying the oil seal.
  • Remove the damper and pulley (section 3.7).
  • Remove the seal from the cover using a screwdriver. To avoid damaging the cover or the crankshaft, place a thick gasket under the screwdriver blade.
  • Check the wear of the working surface of the bushing and, if necessary, replace the bushing.
  • Carefully clean all parts, if necessary, round off the edges of the hole for the oil seal.
  • If there is a leak on the outer surface of the seal, apply sealant to the seal.
  • Place 1 g of long-life grease between the working edge and the dust-protective edge and carefully place the seal on the crankshaft bushing and insert it into the drive cover. If the seal is installed on a sealant, a 3-hour hold is required for the sealant to harden.
  • Install the damper according to the recommendations section 3.7 on the crankshaft.
