612 series crankshaft front oil seal installation details

1. The details of installing the front crankshaft oil seal on 612 series engines are shown in the illustrations, which include all references in the text.
2. Remove the accessory drive belt (1).
3. Using a special tool (2) lock the flywheel/drive plate ring gear.
4. Remove vibration damper/drive belt pulley (6) (see Section Removing and installing vibration damper/drive belt pulley).
5. Using a screwdriver, remove the old oil seal (8) out of its seat - take care not to damage the sealing surfaces.
6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order - use the mandrel to seat the gland (9).

628 Series Front End Cap/Crankshaft Seal Installation Parts

1. Installation details of the front end cover / front crankshaft oil seal on 628 series engines are shown in the illustration, to which all references in the text refer.
2. Open the hood and lock it in an upright position.
3. Remove vibration damper/drive shaft pulley (3) (see Section Removing and installing vibration damper/drive belt pulley).
4. Turn out fixing bolts (5) and remove the front end cap (6) engine.
5. Using a screwdriver, remove the old oil seal from the seat in the cover (4).
6. Thoroughly clean the mating surface of the end cap and engine block.
7. Apply sealant and install end cap in place.
8. Using a suitable drift, seat a NEW oil seal in the cover.
9. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components.
10. Finally, start the engine and check it for signs of leakage from the front oil seal.
