Remove axle shaft assembly as described in section 14.3.
Using a screwdriver, remove the oil seal from the bearing cover, placing a rag under the screwdriver to avoid damaging the surface of the cover, as shown in fig. 226.

Check the condition of the working surface on the inner end of the axle shaft and, if necessary, replace the axle shaft. Oil seals on the inner surface have helical grooves with different direction of turns. On the left axle, right direction (marked in red); on the right axle left direction (marked in green).
It is unacceptable to change the seals in places, because. it will disrupt their work. Before installation, it is necessary to compare the new oil seal with the one removed from the cover.
Press a new oil seal with sealant applied to the outer surface into the cover using a mandrel. The end surface of the stuffing box, when correctly installed, must coincide with the end face of the bearing cover.
Install axle shaft assembly with spacer ring as described in section 14.3.
Put a new adjusting ring on the end of the axle shaft. Check the axial clearance between the inner end of the axle shaft and the differential housing. The gap should be imperceptible, but the adjusting ring should rotate in the groove. If necessary, install a thicker or thinner setting ring.
Pour the prescribed oil into the final drive housing up to the lower edge of the filler hole.
