Removal and installation the main gear (differential)
Drain the oil from the final drive housing.
Loosen the mounting bolts, remove the right brake caliper and hang it on a piece of wire to the car body without stretching the brake system hose.
Loosen the bolts securing the holder to the hub body.
If it is necessary to remove the exhaust system.
Remove the rubber bushing and slide the parking brake cable housing back.
Loosen the cardan drive clamp nut (key size 41). In a cardan transmission consisting of three units, it is sufficient to loosen the fastening of the front clamping nut.
Unscrew the fastening of the cardan transmission flange from the main transmission flange and unscrew the fastening of the intermediate support of the cardan transmission to the car body. Using a piece of wire, secure the cardan transmission to the parking brake bracket.
Loosen the bolt securing the axle shaft to the hub and remove the washer.
Using a puller, as shown in Fig. 222, press the end of the axle shaft out of the rear wheel hub.

If necessary, unscrew the fastening of the upper end of the right shock absorber and lower the suspension arm until the spring stops.
Place a jack under the final drive housing.
Loosen the fastening of the rear rubber support of the main gear to the body (Fig. 223).

Loosen the fastening of the main gear to the crossmember.
Using a jack, remove the main gear together with the axle shafts, paying attention to the position of the axle shaft hinges and preventing depressurization and damage to the hinge housings.
Check the condition of the rear rubber support and replace it if necessary. If the main gear needs repair, it can be done at a service station or a replacement unit can be installed on the car. It is not recommended to perform repairs yourself.
During installation, perform the following tasks:
Install the rubber support on the final drive housing.
Using a jack, raise the final drive.
Secure the final drive to the rear suspension crossmember.
Press the ends of the axle shafts into the rear wheel hubs and tighten the mounting bolts.
Secure the rear support of the main gear to the vehicle body.
Secure the cardan shaft flange to the main gear flange and tighten, but do not tighten, the intermediate support mounting bolts to the body.
Install the caliper with a new locking plate and tighten the mounting bolts.
Install the parking brake cable housing retainer, bushing and cable housing. Adjust the parking brake drive.

Fill the main gear housing with oil up to the lower edge of the filler hole.
Roll the car several times in two directions and tighten the driveshaft clamping nut to 30-40 Nm (key size 41). Tighten the intermediate support mounting bolts to a torque of 25 Nm.
Install the exhaust system.
