Removal and installation of the main transfer (differential)
Drain the oil from the main gear case.
Unscrew the mounting bolts, remove the right brake caliper and hang it on a piece of wire to the car body without pulling the brake hose.
Loosen the bolts securing the holder to the hub housing.
If necessary, remove the exhaust system.
Remove the rubber grommet and slide the parking brake cable sheath back.
Loosen the gimbal clamp nut (key size 41). In a driveline consisting of three units, it is enough to loosen the fastening of the front clamping nut.
Unscrew the fastening of the driveline flange from the final drive flange and unscrew the fastening of the intermediate support of the driveline to the vehicle body. With a piece of wire, secure the driveline to the parking brake bracket.
Unscrew the bolt securing the axle shaft to the hub and remove the washer.
Using a puller, as shown in Fig. 222, press the end of the axle shaft out of the rear wheel hub.

If necessary, unscrew the fastening of the upper end of the right shock absorber and lower the suspension arm until the spring stops.
Place a jack under the main gear housing.
Loosen the rear rubber mount of the final drive to the body (pic. 223).
Pic. 223. Main gear mount (first performance).
Loosen the main gear mount to the cross member.
Using a jack, remove the main gear together with the axle shafts, while paying attention to the position of the axle shaft hinges and preventing depressurization and damage to the hinge housings.
Check the condition of the rear rubber support and replace if necessary. If it is necessary to repair the final drive, it can be carried out at a service station or a replacement unit can be installed on the car. It is not recommended to carry out repairs yourself.
When installing, do the following:
Install the rubber support on the final drive housing.
Raise the main gear with a jack.
Attach final drive to rear suspension cross member.
Press the ends of the axle shafts into the rear wheel hubs and tighten the mounting bolts.
Fasten the rear final drive support to the vehicle body.
Fasten the driveline flange to the final drive flange and tighten, but do not tighten, the bolts securing the intermediate support to the body.
Install the caliper with a new locking bar and tighten the mounting bolts.
Install the parking brake cable sheath retainer, bushing and cable sheath. Adjust the parking brake actuator.
Pour oil into the final drive housing along the lower edge of the filler hole.
Roll the car several times in two directions and tighten the clamping nut of the driveline with a torque of 30-40 Nm (key size 41). Torque to 25 Nm tighten bolts securing intermediate support.
Install the exhaust system.
