Checking the level and topping up the coolant (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

0

Sequence of works

"Daily maintenance"

1. Check the coolant level on a cold engine - the cooling system is not under pressure.

2. When the engine is cold, the level should reach the dividing fold between the upper and lower parts of the tank (Fig. 4.43). In this case, the sensor float occupies the upper position. When the engine is hot, the liquid level rises higher.

3. To add fluid, open the filler neck (Fig. 4.44). When the engine is hot, hold the cap with a thick cloth and open it slowly to equalize the pressure of the hot fluid with the outside pressure. If you open the cap too quickly, the fluid under pressure will be ejected from the neck.

4. Do not add liquid above the expansion tank dividing fold; the coolant will expand when heated and the excess will be thrown out.
