Removal the water pump from a 6-cylinder petrol engine

1. Remove the ground cable from the battery and drain the coolant from the cooling system.
2. Remove the auxiliary drive belt and belt tensioner.
3. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts and move the pump to the side without disconnecting the hoses from it.
4. Remove the air filter and air intake.
5. Remove the distributor and auxiliary drive belt cover.
6. On early models, remove the six A/C compressor mounting bolts and move the compressor to the side without disconnecting the hoses from it.
7. Unscrew the bolt and remove the heater return pipe from the water pump. Remove the O-ring from the pipe (see Fig. Fastening the heater return pipe to the water pump, Removing the O-ring from the heater return pipe). Remove the pipe from the mounting bracket on the radiator fan bracket.
8. On models with an oil cooler, unscrew the coolant supply line from the water pump and remove the O-ring. Remove the screw and coolant pipe bracket from the intake manifold hanger.
9. Remove the thermostat.
10. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the cylinder head coolant hoses and the upper radiator hose from the water pump (see Fig. Removing the Upper Radiator Hose from the Water Pump, Fastening the Cylinder Head Coolant Hose to the Water Pump).
11. Remove 4 bolts and remove the water pump from the engine (see Fig. Removing the water pump from a 6-cylinder gasoline engine). Remove the two bushings and remove the sealing ring.
Installation
1. Carefully clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and cylinder block from any remaining old gasket material.
2. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points.
3. Some water pump mounting bolts require the use of a rod and magnet to install.
4. Tighten all bolts to the specified torque.
5. When installing the water pump and thermostat housing, new gaskets must be used. When installing the heater return hose, a new O-ring must be installed on the hose.
6. Install and adjust the tension of the auxiliary drive belt.
7. Fill the cooling system with coolant.
