High Voltage Ignition Coil — Removal and Installation (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W201)

1. The information is contained in Chapter 5B.

2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

3. Pull off the protective cover, then disconnect the main high-voltage wire plug from the center contact (see Fig. 3.3, a, b).

4. Loosen the nuts and disconnect the positive and negative low voltage wires from the coil terminals. Label each low voltage wire to avoid confusion during installation.

5. Loosen and remove the mounting screws, then lift the coil and bracket off the inner wing.

6. Locate the protection plug on the top surface of the coil (see fig. 3.6). If the cooling oil in the coil overheats at some point due to overload or internal failure, the plug will pop up. In this case, the coil must be replaced, however, only after identifying and eliminating the cause of the coil failure.

7. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
