Basically, the battery is designated as maintenance-free, i.e. under normal operating conditions, it is not required to fill it with electrolyte. However, it often happens that under certain circumstances the electrolyte level in the battery drops.
The following are some of the battery maintenance tasks that, if performed regularly, will help ensure long life and high power:
- Always keep the battery and surrounding area clean. The top surface of the battery must always be dry, otherwise leakage currents may occur between the cells and the battery will be discharged;
- The electrolyte level in the battery must always reach the lower mark on the outside of the battery case. To top up, use distilled water;
- in cold weather, do not leave the battery in a discharged state, as the electrolyte in it may freeze.
