Basically, the battery is designated as maintenance-free, i.e. under normal operating conditions, it does not require adding electrolyte. However, it often happens that under certain circumstances the electrolyte level in the battery decreases.
Below are some battery maintenance tasks that, if performed regularly, will help ensure long battery life and high power output:
- always keep the battery and surrounding area clean. The top surface of the battery must always be dry, otherwise leakage currents may occur between the cells and the battery will discharge;
- the electrolyte level in the battery should always reach the lower mark on the outside of the battery case. Use distilled water for topping up;
- in cold weather, the battery should not be left in a discharged state, as the electrolyte in it may freeze.
