Brake system — general information (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 903)

In accordance with the standards for admitting vehicles to operation in any country, each vehicle must be equipped with a parking brake system and a hydraulic service brake system that operate independently of each other. If one of the systems fails, the car can be stopped using the other. The Mercedes Sprinter is equipped with a parking brake and a dual-circuit service brake system with diagonal circuit separation, i.e. one independent circuit is responsible for braking one front wheel and the rear wheel located diagonally from it. If one of the circuits fails, braking will be performed by the other pair of wheels. This increases the force on the pedal, its travel and, accordingly, the braking distance.
