Every vehicle must be equipped with a parking brake system and a hydraulic service brake system that operate independently of each other, in accordance with vehicle approval regulations in any country. In the event of a failure of one of the systems, the car can be stopped using the other. The Mercedes Sprinter is equipped with a parking brake and a dual-circuit service brake system with a diagonal separation of circuits, i.e. one independent circuit is responsible for braking one front wheel and the rear one located diagonally from it. If one of the circuits fails, braking will be carried out by another pair of wheels. This increases the effort on the pedal, its course and, accordingly, the braking distance.
