Removal
1. On turbocharged engines, remove the compressed air supply pipe
2. Remove the cylinder head cover.
3. Set the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position.
Caution! Do not rotate the engine crankshaft by the camshaft sprocket bolt or in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation.

4. Remove the timing chain tensioner.
5. On models with self-leveling suspension, remove the oil pump.
6. Align the marks on the camshaft sprocket and the timing chain.

7. Loosen the camshaft sprocket mounting bolt, holding the camshaft with a metal rod.

8. Remove the camshaft sprocket and let the chain hang down.
9. Loosen the camshaft bearing cap mounting bolts (1), (5) and (6). Loosen the cap mounting bolts (2), (3), (4) and (7) one by one, one turn each.

10. Remove the camshaft.
11. Remove the retaining gasket (axial clearance adjuster) and check its condition.

12. Remove the hydraulic lifters. Check their condition (visually) and replace them if necessary.

Installation
1. Insert the retaining pad (axial clearance adjuster) into the cylinder head. 2. Lubricate the camshaft with engine oil and install it into the cylinder head so that the TDC mark is located at the top.

3. Install the camshaft bearing caps and tighten their mounting bolts. First tighten caps (2), (3), (4) and (7) one at a time, one turn each. Then tighten the mounting bolts of camshaft bearing caps (1), (3) and (6).

4. Install the camshaft sprocket, aligning the mark on it with the mark on the timing chain.

5. Install the timing chain tensioner.
6. Install the oil pump.
7. Set the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position and check the alignment of the marks.
