Fuses — Types and Locations (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

Contents: Fuses with blade type contacts ↡ Location of fuses ↡
Each electrical device in a car requires a certain amount of current, so a wire of the required cross-section is connected to it. If the current in the circuit of this device increases when an additional consumer is connected or as a result of a short circuit, the wire experiences an overload. As a result, the wire heats up and may even begin to melt if the current supply is not interrupted in time. This is what fuses are used for.

To prevent the car from being completely de-energized in the event of a malfunction, fuses are distributed among the various electrical circuits. However, the connections between the battery, alternator, starter, and ignition switch are not equipped with fuses.

Fuses with blade type contacts

The Mercedes car is equipped with flat fuses with blade-type contacts. Two flat contact plates are inserted into their plastic housing, connected by a fusible link.

Two main ratings are used: 30 or 40 A overload fuses are installed in the engine compartment and under the rear seat. Fuses of a lower rating cover the range from 7.5 to 20 A. A special tool is included in the standard kit for easy removal of fuses. Do not forget about timely replacement - spare fuses are located in the front fuse box.

A Mercedes vehicle can have up to 56 fuses.

Location of fuses

The location of the fuses in various E-class modifications depends on the year of manufacture and the trim level. The location of the fuses in your car can be found in the operating manual or the memo on the fuse box cover.

The color of the plastic fuse body corresponds to a certain maximum permissible current value (A): brown – 7.5; red – 10; blue – 15; yellow – 20; green – 30; orange – 40.
