Ignition system design and specification (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W123)

0
The ignition system is of the classic type, battery-powered. Includes a distributor, coil, spark plugs, power source, high and low voltage wires.

Since 1978 model year the "230E" and "280E" models were equipped with a contactless TSZ ignition system with adjustment of the ignition advance angle by vacuum and centrifugal regulators of the ignition distributor sensor. The sensor is driven by an intermediate shaft.

The order of operation of the cylinders:
  • M 115, M 102: 1-3-4-2
  • M 110, M 123: 1—5—3—6—2—4

Battery

The battery is located in the front left part of the engine compartment. The negative terminal of the battery is connected to the car body.
