Removing
Attention!
- When installing the exhaust system, make sure that the individual elements of the system fit snugly together. Otherwise, incorrect results may be obtained when monitoring the exhaust gases.
- The 6-cylinder engines have a dual-pipe dual-pipe exhaust system. Work with this system is carried out similarly to work with the single-threaded system described below.
- The operation of lifting and placing the vehicle on stands is dangerous! Therefore, before carrying out the operation, read Section Jacking and towing Introduction to leadership.
1. Raise and place the vehicle on stands.
2. Remove the bottom facing of an impellent compartment, address to the Section Removal and installation of a cover of an impellent compartment from the bottom.
3. Spray all exhaust bolts and nuts with rust remover. Wait a while.
4. Petrol engine: Remove the lambda probe connectors from the holders and disconnect them.
5. Petrol engine: Disconnect the downpipe from the exhaust manifold.
6. Diesel engine: Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the preliminary catalytic converter, for which wring out the clamp.
7. Place wooden supports under the exhaust system or have an assistant hold the system.
8. Detach the holder (1) receiving pipe. The illustration shows the 271 engine.
9. Loosen the nuts (1) on the gearbox holder. Remove the threaded strip underneath. The illustration shows the 611 engine.
10. 112 6-cylinder petrol engine: Detach the exhaust bracket from the underside of the vehicle.
11. Lower the complete exhaust system and remove it.
12. If necessary, separate the catalytic converter and the additional muffler.
Attention! A used catalytic converter contains valuable materials that can be recycled. MERCEDES-BENZ workshops accept used converters and their residual value is taken into account when buying a new converter.
Installation
1. Check for cracks and damage to the rubber mounts and holder, replace if necessary.
2. If used parts are to be reinstalled, clean the pipe flanges with sandpaper to remove combustion products and rust. Be sure to use new gaskets, bolts and nuts. To facilitate the process of loosening bolts and nuts, it is recommended to lubricate them with high-temperature copper paste before installation.
Attention! Do not allow high temperature paste to enter the exhaust system ahead of the catalytic converter. It is also not allowed to use liquid sealants, because. catalytic converter may be dirty.
3. Gasoline engine: Install downpipe with new gasket and secure to exhaust manifold without tightening.
4. Diesel engine: Install downpipe with new sealing cone on pre-catalytic converter and clamp with clamp.
5. Install the holder on the bottom of the car (1) exhaust systems with rubber mounts (2). Install the downpipe loosely without pulling it. The distance of the elements of the exhaust system to any part of the car must be at least 25 mm.
6. Install the threaded bar (1) intake pipe holder. nuts (2) on the downpipe holder, be sure to replace with new ones and tighten to 20Nm.
7. Tighten the connecting flanges and collars of the intake pipe to a torque of 20Nm.
8. Petrol engine: Connect the lambda probe connectors and attach to the holders.
9. Start the engine and check the exhaust system for leaks.
10. Establish the bottom facing of an impellent compartment, address to the Section Removal and installation of a cover of an impellent compartment from the bottom.
11. Lower the car on wheels.
