1. Remove the bipod as described in paragraph 22.
2. Remove the upper retaining ring from the steering gear, then carefully pry the seal out of its socket.
3. Remove all traces of dirt from the crankcase and gear and stick tape on top of the splines.
4. Push a new seal over the top end of the steering gear and press it perpendicularly into the steering gear housing.
5. Remove the tape from the gear splines, then install the top retaining ring, making sure it is properly seated in the gear groove.
6. Mount the bipod as described in paragraph 22.
7. On models with power steering, bleed the system as described in paragraph 25.
