Removal



1. Remove the tie rod end 1 (see illustration 20.2).

2. Loosen clamps 2 that secure steering gear cuff 3 and remove them (see illustration).

3. Check the condition of the clamps and replace them with new ones if necessary.

Attention! The illustration shows the outer clamp for fastening the cuff.


4. Remove the cuff.

5. Inspect the toothed rack and the inner joint of the transverse tie rod and make sure that they are not rusted or have any play. If rust appears, the toothed rack and pinion steering mechanism must be replaced as a set. If the ball joint is broken, the transverse tie rod must be replaced together with the tip (the work is carried out in the workshop).
