Note: Installation will require new tie rod ball joint nuts and a new shock absorber boot nut.
Removal
1. Apply the parking brake and place chocks under the front wheels. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support it (see Fig. "Lifting the car and placing it on supports").
2. Loosen and remove the mounting nut and bolt and separate the shock absorber from the steering rod.
3. Loosen and remove the nuts securing the ball joints of the steering rod to the steering gear and intermediate arm. Disconnect the ball joints using a universal ball joint puller. Pull the longitudinal rod out from under the car.
4. Make sure that the joints move freely without binding and that the joint boots are not damaged or have cracks or tears. If the joints are worn or damaged, the tie rod assembly should be replaced. If only the boot is damaged, replace it and put fresh grease in the boot.
Installation
5. Make sure the ball joint pins are clean and dry. Then install the steering rod. Install new mounting nuts and tighten them to the required torque.
