Replacing the front brake cable (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126)

Removal



Raise and support the car.

On models with a heat shield under the intermediate lever (6), support the rear of the exhaust system with a jack, remove the rubber ring from the hook and lower the rear of the exhaust system slightly.

Remove the heat shield.

Using pliers, detach the release spring (12) from the wire (30).

Turn the adjusting screw (3) of the adjusting bracket (1) completely back.

Unhook the intermediate lever (6) from the frame on the chassis floor (2) and pull it out of the adjustment bracket.

Remove the cotter pin from the head pin and disconnect the handbrake cable (17) from the intermediate lever (6).



While working in the cabin, remove the dashboard trim panel to gain access to the cable.

Disconnect the inner cable from the lever, remove the snap ring and disconnect the outer cable.

Pull the cable through the bottom (through the chassis floor).

Installation



Pull the cable from the inside out through the chassis floor and the rubber bushing. Check that the bushing is securely in place.

Connect the cable to the lever and secure it with a spring clamp.

Insert the cable into the bracket and secure it with the spring clamp.

Insert the intermediate lever into the bracket and then attach it to the support on the chassis floor.

Hook the release spring to the wire. Adjust the parking brake.

Install the heat shield in place (if provided) and re-attach the rear part of the exhaust system.

Install the dashboard panel in place.

Lower the car.
