Fig. 1.15. Diesel 6-cylinder engine E 320 CDI
In August 1999, the E 320 CDI (Fig. 1.15) was launched on the market – the most powerful version of the diesel engine in the E class with CR injection, which replaced the E 300 D diesel.
At an engine speed of 4,200 min⁻¹, the new 6-cylinder engine produces 145 kW/197 hp, 11.5% more than its predecessor. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. The top speed of the car is 230 mph. Despite these respectable performance figures, the E 320 CDI consumes only 7.8 liters of diesel per 100 km (NEFZ).
