Checking the steering rack mudguards (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)
0
The toothed rack protruding from the protective housing on the right and left is protected by rubber mudguards. Dirt and moisture penetrating through damaged mudguards combine with the steering gear lubricant and constantly act as a grinding paste on the steering gear pinion, which leads to its rapid wear. Therefore, worn mudguards must be replaced in a timely manner.
Sequence of works
1. Inspect the mudguards using a flashlight.
2. After turning the wheels fully to the right and left in turn, inspect the folds of the mudguard corrugations for possible cracks.
3. The clamps must be securely held on the mudguards.
