Transmission oil and filter — replacement (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W202)

0
Contents: Drain ↡ Filling ↡
Transmission oil is usually changed every 60,000 km of vehicle mileage, and the filter is also changed at the same time. Under severe operating conditions (working with a trailer, mainly short-distance travel and driving in large cities, extremely high outside temperatures) it is necessary to change the transmission oil every 30,000 km (without filter replacement).

Attention! Hand over used transmission oil to special collection points for used oils, under no circumstances simply pour it out or mix it with household waste.

Drain

1. Set the selective selection lever to position "P".

2. Jack up the car in a horizontal position.

3. If necessary, remove the lower engine compartment cover.

4. Install an oil pan under the gearbox (suitable capacity).

4. Install an oil pan under the gearbox (suitable capacity).

5. Unscrew the drain plug (1) in the oil pan (3) and drain the oil.

6. Turn the engine crankshaft pulley in the direction of engine crankshaft rotation (assistant) until the drain plug on the torque converter is positioned over the ventilation grille opening. Turn the engine shaft.

7. Unscrew the drain plug (2) and drain the oil.

8. Remove the bolts (7) of the oil pan (3).

8. Remove the bolts (7) of the oil pan (3).

9. Unscrew the bolts (6) of the oil filter (5), remove it downwards.

10. Screw on the new oil filter with a torque of approximately 4 Nm.

11. Clean the oil pan thoroughly and install a new seal.

Attention! For cleaning, use only clean, lint-free cloths and pay attention to the utmost cleanliness when carrying out all work operations.

12. Tighten the oil pan mounting bolts evenly and firmly to 8 N·m.

13. Screw in the drain plugs with new sealing rings and tighten them securely to 8 Nm.

14. Lower the car.

Filling

1. Apply the parking brake.

2. Open the locking device lever and on the oil level indicator, pull out the indicator and with the engine not running, pour 4 liters of ATF transmission oil through a clean funnel and a fine-mesh sieve.

3. Start the engine and let it idle.

4. Add the remaining amount of ATF transmission oil. Check the oil level using the dipstick.

5. Filling quantity:
  • 4-cylinder engine: about 5.5 l;
  • 6-cylinder engine: about 6.0 l.

6. With the vehicle stationary, switch the selector lever to all positions, leaving the lever in individual positions for a few seconds. Then set the lever back to position "P".

Caution! When switching gear ratio ranges, additionally press the foot brake.

7. Insert the level indicator as far as it will go and lock it with the locking device lever.

8. Carry out a short test drive, this will allow the transmission oil to reach an operating temperature of 80°C.

9. Place the vehicle on a level surface.

10. Check the transmission oil level with the engine shaft speed in idle mode, add oil if necessary.

11. Visually check the tightness of the drain plug threads and the oil pan.

12. Install the lower engine compartment cover.
