Instruments and electrical equipment
1. Check the operation of all devices and electrical equipment.
2. Make sure all instruments are reading correctly and turn on all electrical equipment to ensure it is working properly.
Steering and suspension
3. Check for any deviations from the norm in the operation of the steering and suspension. How does the car "hold" the road?
4. Check for any unusual noise or vibration.
5. Make sure the steering works smoothly, without any looseness or sticking. Pay attention to the sounds made by the suspension during sharp turns and when driving over bumps.
Transmission
6. Check the operation of the engine, gearbox clutch and drive shafts.
7. Listen for any unusual sounds coming from the engine, clutch and gearbox.
8. Make sure that the engine runs smoothly at idle and does not stall when you press the accelerator pedal (increases revs when accelerating).
9. Make sure the clutch operates smoothly and gradually. The car starts smoothly and the pedal travel is normal. Listen for noise when pressing the pedals.
10. Make sure that the gears engage smoothly and without rattling. Make sure that the gear shift lever is firmly in place in all gears.
11. For models with automatic transmission, check that all gears engage smoothly without jerking and that the engine speed does not increase between gear shifts. Check that any transmission mode can be engaged when the car is stopped. If any problems are found, contact your Mercedes - Benz dealer.
Brake system
12. Check whether the car pulls to the side when braking and whether the wheels lock up when braking sharply.
13. Check if there is any steering wheel vibration when braking.
14. Check the operation of the parking brake. The car should be held on the slope. The brake handle travel should not be too large.
15. Check the operation of the vacuum booster as follows. Turn off the engine and press the brake pedal several times to remove all the vacuum from the booster, then start the engine. Once the engine starts, the pedal should become softer as the vacuum increases. Let the engine run for about two minutes, then turn it off. If you now press the brake pedal, you should hear a hissing sound coming from the vacuum booster. After four or five presses, the hissing should stop and the pedal should become noticeably harder.
