1. This operation can only be carried out in a clean, dust-free room.

2. Raise the vehicle with a jack and place it on supports (see "Lifting the car and placing it on supports"). Check that the vehicle is level.

3. Where provided, remove the protection from below to gain access to the gearbox.

4. Move the gear selector lever to position "P".

5. Wipe the transmission pan clean, especially the area near the drain plug, pan-to-transmission mounting bolts, and the pan-to-transmission connection.

6. Place a suitable container under the drain hole, then use an Allen key or Allen key to loosen the plug and allow the liquid to drain into the container (see fig. 28.6). Close the drain plug when all the liquid has drained.

7. Using a wrench on the crankshaft pulley hub bolt, turn the crankshaft until the torque converter drain plug is visible in the hole in the gearbox housing (see fig. 28.7).

8. Move the container under the torque converter drain hole, then unscrew the plug and allow the fluid to drain into the container. Replace the plug when all the fluid has drained.

9. Loosen the fluid pan mounting bolts, then remove the mounting plates and lower the pan (see fig. 28.9). If the tray is stuck to the body, use light blows of a wooden hammer to separate the tray. Remove the rubber seal.

10. Remove the screws and take out the filter screen (see fig. 28.10).

11. Using a clean, lint-free cloth, thoroughly clean the tray inside and out.

12. Install the new filter screen and tighten the mounting screws.

13. Place the tray in place and install the mounting plates and bolts. Tighten the bolts to the required torque.

14. Where provided, install pallet protection.

15. Lower the vehicle to the ground, then release the locking lever and pull out the fluid level dipstick.

16. Initially, pour 4.0 liters of the required fluid into the gearbox through the dipstick tube (see "Operating materials"). Start the engine and let it idle with the gear selector lever in position "P".

17. Continue adding fluid until the level is 12 mm below the "MIN" mark on the dipstick (see paragraph 6 of this Chapter).

18. Move the gear selector lever through all positions, pausing in each for a few seconds. Then return to position "P".

19. Check the level again as described in point 17.

20. Repeat steps 18 and 17 until the liquid level is at the same level.

21. Take the vehicle for a short drive and check the level as described in paragraph 6 of this Chapter.
