Removal and installation the front cover of the manual transmission (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W116)

Disconnect the clutch housing.

Loosen the front cover mounting bolts.

Remove the cover, paying attention to the position of the adjusting rings of the drive and intermediate shafts.

Loosen the fastener and remove the clutch release sleeve guide pipe.

Remove the seal.

Clean the lid.

Press in a new seal.

Install the guide pipe and tighten the mounting bolts by hand.

To facilitate installation, glue the gasket and adjusting rings with grease.

Carefully place the front cover on the drive shaft. Clean the threaded holes and apply sealant to the threads of the mounting bolts and studs.

Tighten the mounting bolts evenly in a crosswise pattern.

Install the clutch housing on the flange of the front cover and check the fit of the working surfaces.

Tighten the clutch housing mounting nuts with spring washers and tighten evenly.

Tighten the clutch guide pipe mounting bolts.

Install the clutch release fork and clutch release sleeve.
