Disassembly
Thoroughly clean all external surfaces of the engine before starting work. Close all openings with clean rags to prevent foreign objects from entering the engine.
Engine disassembly is detailed in the sections below. When describing, we tried not to describe the work during disassembly or assembly twice. In the case of complete disassembly, the sequence of work on individual units and assemblies can be changed arbitrarily.
When disassembling, mark all moving or shifting parts before removal if they are to be reused. This applies especially to pistons, valves, bearing caps and liners. When storing parts, arrange them in such a way as to avoid confusion.
It is unacceptable to apply marks with a scriber or fill in numbers on the working surfaces of bearings or split surfaces. Many parts are made of aluminum alloys. To remove them, use only hammers with rubber, plastic or wooden working surfaces.
Complete disassembly of the engine is rarely necessary, so a number of work performed when removing the engine can be skipped. When replacing the complete engine, only the most necessary work is carried out in the correct sequence.
