Checking the condition of the engine oil (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

0
Check the oil level after every second fill-up with gasoline. If the engine is old, with increased oil consumption, it makes sense to check the oil level at each fill-up until the tank is full.

Sequence of works

"Before every trip"

1. Before starting the engine, check the oil level on a cold engine. The car should be level. If you want to check the oil after driving, wait 5 minutes for all the oil to drain into the crankcase.

2. Remove the dipstick. Be careful when measuring on a warm engine: parts located close to the engine are very hot. Wipe the oil dipstick with a clean rag. Insert the dipstick into the socket as far as it will go, wait a little, and, after removing it, check the level again.

3. If the oil level is between the marks on the dipstick (Fig. 5.21), then everything is OK. Oil should be added only if its level approaches the "minimum" mark. The area between the "minimum" and "maximum" marks corresponds to a volume of 2 liters. Use a clean funnel to add oil.

Add oil so that its level is below the "max" mark (top mark). Excess oil in the engine under certain conditions can be sucked through the crankcase ventilation into the air filter, heavily clogging it.
