The oil pressure warning light comes on when there is a lack of oil, when the engine components and parts are not getting enough lubrication. This happens if you take a corner at high speed with a low oil level. The oil pump sucks in air instead of oil. The oil pressure drops sharply, which can lead to serious damage to the bearings.
The oil pressure warning light came on
If the oil pressure warning light flashes at idle after fast driving on a highway or mountain road, this is a signal that the oil pressure has dropped due to too high a temperature and, as a result, too low viscosity of the oil. This is not a problem if the light goes out when you add gas.
If the oil pressure warning light is constantly on:
1. Stop immediately and turn off the engine.
2. Check the oil level.
3. If the oil level is low, add some. Check if the indicator lamp lights up again.
4. Tow the car to a service station.
