Control devices — general description (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

The driver must constantly monitor the technical condition of the car and control the situation on the road. Control devices are designed for this purpose. They are a combination of devices consisting of three easily readable round devices that provide information on the engine crankshaft speed, vehicle speed, coolant temperature and fuel level, as well as indicators of ambient air temperature, total and daily mileage, and a clock that are built into the main round devices as liquid crystal indicators. The driver receives other information in the event of any malfunction: various control and signal lamps that are usually not visible light up.

In the E-Class model, most parameters are controlled by electronic instruments. The driver only has to monitor the readings of a small number of indicators and control lamps.

Oil pressure and airbag warning lights

The oil pressure or airbag control lamp should only light up when the ignition is turned on for about 6 seconds. If, on the contrary, the lamp does not go out, lights up or flashes while driving, there is a malfunction in the airbag system. In this case, you should immediately check it at a service station.

Sensors, wires and switches

Control systems can also malfunction. Sometimes, due to damage to sensors or wires, a faulty switch causes incorrect information. If you have found that many devices show distorted data, the generator voltage regulator may be faulty, which is why the voltage in the on-board network increases or decreases.
