Timing Chain Cover Installation Details


1. Remove the front covers.

2. Remove the cooling system pump (2).

3. Remove the air filter with air flow meter.

4. Remove the air pump (9).

5. Remove the generator (13).

6. Set the piston of the first cylinder to the position 30° after TDC.

7. Mark the position of the timing chain relative to the camshaft sprockets.

8. Remove the crankshaft pulley with the vibration damper.

1. Unscrew the pulley (10) of the steering pump (12) and remove it, install the alternator drive belt (21) over the pulley (10), install the retainer (14) and loosen the mounting bolts.

2. Unscrew the steering pump mounting bolts (12) and secure the pump with the pipes attached to the side. On engines with a TDC sensor, unscrew the sensors (L1/1) and (L1/2) from the timing chain cover.

1. Unscrew the air pump filter (4) and remove it.

2. Loosen bolts (15) and (16) and remove the air pump/generator bracket (3).

3. Unscrew the timing chain tensioner. 4. Unscrew bolts (17), (18) and (19) and remove the timing chain cover.

1. Wipe and lubricate with sealant the sealing surfaces (arrow) of the oil line of the timing chain cover (7).

2. Wipe the sealing surfaces of the timing chain cover (7) and the cylinder block. Lubricate the sealing surfaces of the oil line of the timing chain cover (7) with sealant 002 989 73 20 10.

3. Replace the sealing rings (8).

4. Install the timing chain cover (7). 5. Tighten the mounting bolts (17) and (18) first.

6. Check the alignment of the color marks (arrows) on the timing chain and on the camshaft sprockets.

7. Install the timing chain tensioner.

8. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
