Checking the thickness of brake pads (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126)

If the brake pads of the front brakes are heavily worn, a warning light on the dashboard lights up. In this case, the pads must be replaced immediately.

Loosen the wheel bolts.

Raise and support the car, remove the front wheels.

Check the thickness of the pads (without rear metal plates) vernier caliper.

Replace the pads when they are worn to the limit. Always replace all pads on one axle at once.

Caution: If the pads wear down to the metal plates, this may cause damage to the caliper and leakage.


Note: As a rule, under unfavorable conditions, the pad wears by 1 mm for every 1000 km of the car's mileage. With a pad thickness of 1 mm, they should last at least 2000 km.
