Clutch release drive (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W116)

0
To engage or disengage the clutch, the slave cylinder pusher moves the clutch release fork, which moves the clutch release sleeve along the guide of the front gearbox cover. The release system is gap-free; as the working surfaces of the driven disk linings wear out, the spring in the slave cylinder automatically moves the piston and eliminates gaps in the clutch release system.

Removal and installation the clutch release fork of the clutch release coupling

To replace the clutch release sleeve, it is necessary to disconnect the gearbox from the engine.

Remove the clutch release sleeve from the front gearbox cover guide (see fig. 163).

Move the clutch release fork in the direction of arrow "a" in Fig. 164 and then in direction "b" to disconnect the fork from the ball joint in the clutch housing and remove the fork.

Thoroughly lubricate all contact surfaces on the front transmission cover guide tube, the fork ball joint and the clutch release fork with long-life grease.

Set the arrows "b" in the opposite direction (see fig. 164) the clutch release fork onto the ball joint until the spring engages the fork bracket with the ball joint.

Move the clutch release fork in the opposite direction of arrow "b".

Lubricate the working surfaces of the clutch release sleeve.

Place the clutch release sleeve onto the guide of the front cover of the gearbox and align the grooves and protrusions on the clutch release sleeve and the clutch release fork.

Attach the gearbox to the engine.
