With a hot engine, slowly open the expansion tank cap and release steam. In any case, the coolant temperature must not exceed 90°C.
Set both taps of the body heater on the front panel to the position "Warm" (warm).
Loosen the drain plug in the lower radiator tank.
Loosen the plug or plugs (in 8-cylinder engine) in the cylinder block (on the right side behind the front engine mount bracket in a 6-cylinder engine). In eight-cylinder engines, not to be confused with the crankshaft main bearing cap bolts (see fig. 35).
After draining the coolant, replace the drain plugs and tighten. Tighten the plug in the radiator with a screwdriver; Tighten the plugs on the cylinder block to 30 Nm for 6-cylinder engines.
To ensure the filling of the cooling system without air locks, work in the following sequence:
On vehicles with or without air conditioning, fully open the body heater valve.
Pour antifreeze (see section 5.1.1) into the radiator or expansion tank up to the mark "Kalt" (cold). Do not close the plug.
Start the engine and bring the engine temperature to operating condition, i.e. before the thermostat opens. Close the plug at a coolant temperature of 60...70°C.
Check coolant level.
