Use a syringe to suck out the oil from the power steering pump reservoir. Disconnect the high-pressure supply hose and the outlet hose from the booster.
Close the holes in the power steering with plugs.
Loosen the bolts connecting the steering gear to the steering shaft.
Remove the steering shaft. To do this, remove the rubber protective cover of the combination switch, unscrew the switch mount and remove the switch.
Disconnect the sliding contact wire to the switch, then lift up the steering wheel cover, loosen the steering wheel mounting nut on the steering drive shaft and remove the steering wheel.
Unscrew the Allen bolts from the protective casing. Pull the steering shaft together with the bearing housing upward until the steering gear and steering shaft joint disengages.
Disconnect the steering rod and transverse steering rod from the steering knuckle.
Loosen the bolts securing the steering gear to the longitudinal reinforcement of the body base.
Remove and lower the steering gear.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order, using the steering gear center position control bolt 116 589 21 00, as well as the mounting mandrel shown in Fig. 238 (self-made for checking the length of the steering shaft during installation).

When installing the steering gear, use only new mounting bolts, check the condition of the hydraulic system hoses, as even minor abrasions can quickly lead to a hose rupture and damage to the power steering.
Fill the tank with the recommended oil.
Start the engine and turn the wheels several times in both directions, add oil if necessary.
After installing the steering gear, check the front wheel adjustments.
