Removal and installation the rear suspension assembly (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W123)

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and place it on supports (stands). Place chocks under the front wheels.

2. Remove the exhaust pipe.

3. Depending on the configuration, unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the heat shield from the bottom of the body, then remove the parking brake drive cables.

4. Disconnect the flexible brake hydraulic hoses from the rear wheel brake calipers, then install the plugs.

5. Remove the cardan shaft.

6. Remove the rear suspension springs.

7. Loosen the nuts securing the anti-roll bar to the connecting links and remove the links.

8. Depending on the equipment, disconnect the ABS sensor wires behind the rear seat back and route them downward.

9. Place a jack trolley under the rear suspension (assembled).

10. Unscrew the bolts securing the front brackets to the bottom of the body.

11. Loosen the bolts securing the suspension units to the body located behind the rear axle.

12. Lower the rear suspension assembly and remove it from under the vehicle.

13. Install in the reverse order of removal, tightening the bolts and nuts to the specified torque and replacing the self-locking bolts securing the rear units. Bleed the brake system hydraulic drive and adjust the parking brake.
