1. Open the tailgate and remove the luggage compartment light without disconnecting the wiring.
2. Unscrew the mounting screws and release the rear panel of the ceiling trim from the latches.
3. Support the tailgate, remove the snap ring and take out the hinge pin.
4. Using an Allen key, remove the front mounting bolt. If there is no opening in the trim to access the stop, carefully remove the trim.
5. Remove the gas-filled strut.
6. Install in the reverse order of removal.
