Examination
1. Remove the cylinder head cover, refer to the appropriate section.
2. Turn the crankshaft to the position of the piston of the first cylinder 25±2°after TDC, at the same time the cams of the first cylinder of the intake camshaft must be angled upwards.
3. Check the phasing of the intake camshaft. To do this, check if the finger is inserted (1) through the hole in the front camshaft cover into the hole in the camshaft flange. If the pin cannot be inserted, there are deviations in the angle of rotation of the crankshaft, if necessary, adjust the position of the camshaft.
Engine with adjustable camshaft: Thrusters located around the circumference of the intake camshaft sprocket (2), should be in position «late» (stop in the grooves of the flange in the direction of rotation of the camshaft) (arrow above).
Note. If the chain is installed incorrectly, for example, if the chain is misaligned by one tooth, the crankshaft angle will change by about 20°.
4. Remove the setting pin.
5. Turn the crankshaft to the position of the piston of the first cylinder 28±2°after TDC, at the same time the cams of the first cylinder of the exhaust camshaft must be angled upwards.
6. Check the phasing of the exhaust camshaft. To do this, check if the finger is inserted (3) through the hole in the front camshaft cover into the hole in the camshaft flange. If the pin cannot be inserted, there are deviations in the angle of rotation of the crankshaft, if necessary, adjust the position of the camshaft.
Note. If the chain is installed incorrectly, for example, if the chain is misaligned by one tooth, the crankshaft angle will change by about 20°.
7. Remove the setting pin.
Phasing correction
1. The cylinder head cover must be removed.
2. Turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation and set the piston of the first cylinder to a position of 20°after TDC.
3. Remove the front cover.
4. Remove the chain tensioner, refer to the appropriate section.
5. Remove the top rail.
6. Remove the exhaust camshaft sprocket by holding the sprocket against turning by the hexagon. Take off the star.
7. Turn the exhaust camshaft to the basic setting. The lobes of the exhaust camshaft of the first cylinder must be angled upwards. Insert setting pin (3) through the hole in the front bearing cap into the hole in the camshaft flange.
8. Remove the chain from the intake camshaft sprocket.
9. Turn the intake camshaft to the basic setting. The intake camshaft lobes of the first cylinder must be angled upwards. Insert setting pin (3) through the hole in the front bearing cap into the hole in the camshaft flange.
Engine with adjustable camshaft: Thrusters located around the circumference of the intake camshaft sprocket (2), should be in position «late» (stop in the grooves of the flange in the direction of rotation of the camshaft) (arrow above).
10. Install the chain on the intake camshaft sprocket and on the guide.
11. Insert the exhaust camshaft sprocket into the chain and fasten it to the shaft with a new shoulder bolt with a torque of 20Nm. Then tighten the bolt with an ordinary wrench at an angle of 90°.
13. Reinstall the chain tensioner, refer to Section Removal and installation of the chain tensioner.
14. Rotate the engine twice in the direction of rotation and recheck the basic camshaft setting. Repeat the adjustment if necessary.
15. Replace the front cover, refer to the appropriate section.
16. Install the cylinder head cover, refer to the appropriate section.
