Removal and installation the chain tensioner (I4) (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W203)

The chain tensioner is screwed into the cylinder head on the right side. The tensioner is supplied with lubricating oil through a hole in the cylinder head.

Removal



1. Engine 111.951: Remove the air filter. Remove the generator.

2. Engine 111.955: Remove the air filter with the circulation flap actuator. Remove the compressor. Cover the generator with a clean cloth.

3. Loosen the tip (1) one turn. A 10 mm socket wrench is required for this.

Attention! After unscrewing the tip, the tensioner must be removed in any case.


4. Unscrew the tensioner by the outer hexagon of the housing (7) from the cylinder head.

Disassembly



Attention! After unscrewing the tip, the tensioner must be removed, disassembled and reassembled, otherwise the timing chain may be overtightened.


1. Unscrew the tip (1) with the sealing ring (2) from the tensioner.

2. Remove the pin (3) and compression spring (4) from the housing.

3. Press the pin (6) with the retaining ring (5) out of the housing (7).

Installation



1. Insert the pin (6) with the retaining ring (5) from behind so that it sits flush with the tensioner housing (7) from the front.



2. Screw the tensioner housing (7) with the pin, locking ring and sealing ring (8) into the timing mechanism housing cover and secure with a torque of 80 Nm.

3. Insert the spring (4) and pin (3) into the tensioner.
