Steering wheel

Removal
1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable with the ignition off. The cabin air filter box must be removed first.
Warning! Before disconnecting the cable, find out the radio receiver security code, if any, refer to Section Replacing the battery.
2. Remove the steering wheel airbag unit, refer to the relevant section.
3. Place the steering wheel horizontally. The front wheels should be straight. Secure the steering wheel lock in this position.

4. Disconnect the horn connectors and disconnect the control units from the contacts (2) and move the wires to the side.
5. Remove the steering wheel mounting screw (1).

6. Disconnect the steering wheel (3) from the steering column (4), while passing the electrical wires (5) through the holes.
Note: The contact coil is not removable.
Installation
1. Check that the front wheels are straight.
2. Place the steering wheel on the splined connection of the steering spindle so that the marks match. At the same time, pass the electrical wires through the holes.
3. Connect the horn and control unit connectors and route the wires as they were before removal.
4. Screw in the new self-locking mounting bolt and tighten it to a torque of 80 Nm.
5. Install the airbag unit to the steering wheel, refer to the relevant section.
6. Unlock the steering wheel lock.
7. Connect the battery ground (-) cable with the ignition off. Reinstall the cabin air filter box. If necessary, enter the radio code and set the clock.
Drive the car and check:
8. Return of turn signals: If the steering wheel is misaligned by more than one tooth, reliable return of the turn signal will not be ensured.
9. "Airbag" indicator light: Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and left. The "Airbag" indicator light should not light up.
10. Steering wheel position when driving straight: If the steering wheel is crooked, although the marks were set correctly during installation, the wheel can be turned no more than one tooth. If the deviations are more significant, check the wheel alignment and adjust it.
