To determine whether there is an ignition spark, unscrew the spark plugs individually, insert them into the spark plug connector and hold them against the engine block ground. Do not hold the spark plug connector or ignition wire with your bare hands, but use well-insulated pliers. Check the ground contact. Ask an assistant to start the engine.
Caution! To avoid damaging the catalytic converter, there should be no petrol injection.
Caution: Observe the safety instructions for the electronic ignition and injection device.
CAUSE | REMEDY |
The engine starts poorly or does not start at all | |
| Service error on startup | Press the clutch pedal, turn on the ignition without giving gas. Turn the key in the ignition switch and operate the starter. As soon as the engine starts, release the key. Be sure to move off immediately, and in severe frost, warm up the engine for about 30 seconds. If the engine does not start after repeated attempts to start, despite individual ignitions, start again with the accelerator pedal fully depressed. Warning! Frequent unsuccessful attempts to start one after another can damage the catalytic converter, since unburned gasoline penetrates the catalytic converter and burns explosively. With a hot engine, press the accelerator pedal slowly when starting. |
| The fuel system is faulty and contaminated | Check the fuel system. |
| The injection device is faulty | Check the injection device according to the fault diagnosis. |
| The starter turns too slowly | Charge the battery. Check the starter electrical circuit. |
| Compression pressure too low | Repair the engine. |
| Incorrect valve timing, control chain extension | Check the valve timing, replace the control circuit. |
| The cylinder head gasket is faulty | Replace the sealing gasket. |
